It distinguishes between ethanol-based alcohols (such as Ethanol, Ethyl Alcohol, Denatured Alcohol, and SD Alcohol 40-B), which are considered najis (impure) in Islamic law due to their intoxicating nature, and fatty or cosmetic alcohols (such as Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, and Cetearyl Alcohol), which are not najis and are commonly used in creams, lotions, and personal care products. The purpose of the list is to clarify terminology and prevent confusion when identifying alcohols in products.

تُرتِّب هذه القائمة أنواع الكحول المذكورة في علم الكيمياء والصناعات التجميلية والاستخدامات اليومية. وهي تُفَرِّق بين الكحوليات الإيثانولية (مثل الإيثانول، الكحول الإيثيلي، الكحول المحوَّر، وكحول SD 40-B) والتي تُعَدّ نجسة شرعًا لكونها مسكرة، وبين الكحوليات الدهنية أو التجميلية (مثل سيتيل كحول، وستيريل كحول، وسيتيريل كحول) والتي ليست نجسة وتُستَعمل عادة في الكريمات والمستحضرات والعناية الشخصية. والغرض من القائمة هو توضيح المصطلحات ومنع الالتباس عند التعرّف على الكحول في المنتجات.
